Writing Classified Ads

Many small business or home business owners think that writing classified ads is a black art. Something that is only in the realm of swanky, slick "ad guys" from shows like "Mad Men". This just isn't true! To be successful at writing classified ads, you must become familiar with A.I.D.A.

A.I.D.A stands for Attention (headline), Interest (body text), Desire (added body text), and Action (call to action).

Writing Classified Ads

To get the reader's attention, you must assume the reader is "scanning" the page on which your ad appears along with two or three hundred classified ads. The first two or three words of your ad are of the utmost importance and deserve your careful consideration.

Next, you must pique their interest. This means asking a question, or presenting a problem that your potential customers or clients might have.

The next step of classified ad writing is to get the reader pumped about your offer, product or service. Again, you want to use attention-getting words but you also want to express how this product or service solves his or her problem.

Now the reader is excited about what you have to offer, you have to have a strong call to action. This means to ask for the sale or ask for the contact information. Don't expect them to just give you their money or information on your own!

Example: Make $1,000 a week! Easy to do! No selling! Risk FREE! Limited offer. Call...

Follow A.I.D.A and you will be well on your way to generating hot leads or sales from your classified ads.
