There are many sites to choose from, as well as certain features that can be added for a small fee to make your ad stand out. It is important, however, to understand how these sites work and boost traffic to your site, and how you can use them to your advantage while still following the rules.

Basically, these sites work because they dominate the search engines. If you post an ad for skis in Nebraska, someone searching the words "skis Nebraska" will come up with your ad automatically, immediately, and probably as one of the first search results. However, not all classified ad sites are created equally. They will only work as a traffic generation tool if the page rank of the site is high, such as on craigslist.

The other important thing to remember is that there are rules you must follow. You cannot post the same ad multiple times, and you cannot post in multiple cities for free. Most sites will allow you to post to multiple categories if you create an account, and to multiple cities for a small fee. If you get caught breaking the rules you will be permanently banned from the site.

Breaking the rules really isn't necessary to achieve positive results. Thousands of people search online classified ads every day. There is no reason why your ad shouldn't be one of the many that are clicked on.
